Abstract:
The CES, through the OPJ (Permanent Observatory for Portuguese Justice), is the organisation contracted in Portugal by the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA), and is therefore part of the FRANET network. The work to be carried out will contribute to the studies and comparative analyses by the FRA on the main challenges faced by the European Union and the Member States in the field of fundamental rights. The analyses carried out are very diverse and focus on issues such as Islamophobia; access to criminal justice for victims of crimes against individuals; discrimination at work on the grounds of disability and age; measures against employers of illegally staying third-country nationals; long-term residence permits; the fight against terrorism and the impact on fundamental rights; the application of the right to the presumption of innocence in criminal proceedings and the implications for the fundamental rights of those involved; measures taken within the framework of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on fundamental rights, in particular older people, Roma, homeless people and prisoners. In addition to these issues, analyses in the FRA's annual reports (Fundamental Rights Report) on the implementation of the Charter of Fundamental Rights, equality and non-discrimination, racism and xenophobia, Roma rights, migration and asylum, data protection, children's rights, access to justice and the rights of people with disabilities should also be highlighted.
