STRESS IN A MILITARY CONTEXT: THE POLITICAL AND LEGAL RESPONSE

Duration:

May 2018 to May 2021

Abstract:

This multidisciplinary study aims to collect and produce knowledge in multiple areas on the disruption caused by exposure to stress factors in a military environment. In the area of legal policy, the study is structured around three main objectives: 1) to outline changes in the legal framework and identify the problem, in particular by defining situations that could be characterised as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or similar, as regards the condition of military and/or ex-military personnel for that purpose, the type and duration of responses, and as regards procedures; 2) to identify the main legal obstacles arising from the current legal framework, whether caused by omission, lack of clarity, inconsistencies, disarray or other factors inherent in the law itself, or by factors that make practical application difficult, namely organisational factors or those relating to training shortcomings; 3) to present the main conclusions and recommendations.
